Singularity University Global Impact Competition @ Griffith University Launch
Singularity University is a think tank organization based at the NASA Ames Research Park in the heart of the Silicon Valley, California. Their mission is to educate, inspire and empower leaders to apply exponential technologies to address humanity’s grand challenges. Their Graduate Studies Program empowers participants with the tools, knowledge, skills and mindset for delivering real humanitarian impact to 1 billion people.
This week we are launching the Global Impact Competition Australia & New Zealand 2014. We are inviting applicants to propose innovative solutions on Climate, Environment and Energy that would significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, fossil energy use, or facilitate adaptation to climate change in any sector. The innovations can be of any type, including social technology, policy interventions, and social ventures.
The winner of the Global Impact Competition will be given automatic acceptance and full sponsorship* to the Singularity University Graduate Studies Program (worth over $30,000) from June-August 2014 at the NASA Research Park in Silicon Valley.

Dr Clarence N.W. Tan is currently the Australian and Malaysian Ambassador for Singularity University, a think tank based in NASA Ames Research Park in Silicon Valley. He is also the founder of Bond Wireless, an Australian-based award-winning wireless software applications and services company.
He received the Queensland government’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence Fellowship for 2010. He is an Adjunct Professor at Bond University and Griffith University in the Gold Coast of Australia and a founding member of the Gold Coast Angel Investors Group which has funded a number of innovative companies. Dr. Tan obtained his Ph.D. from Bond University and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Computers) from the University of Southern California, where he went on to simultaneously complete a Master of Business Administration (Finance), and a Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
Dr. Tan is a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society (FACS) and a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (F Fin). He has a number of academic publications including a book, book chapters and peer-reviewed papers in the area of soft computing and mobile applications. In addition Dr Tan holds a number of patents in mobility technology globally.
He has been an invited keynote speaker in a number of events including the London Business School Alumni event in Singapore, the Awesomemest Fest in Bali, the Global Investment Panel for Singularity University at NASA Ames Research Park, the World Computer Congress in Brisbane, etc.
Zezan Tam is Founder of TutorU and is on the Advisory Board of the Melbourne Microfinance Initiative.
TutorU is a startup with a vision of using web technology to make it easy for tertiary students to find the tutors they are looking for.
Zezan was previously Associate at The Boston Consulting Group in both Melbourne, Australia and Copenhagen, Denmark; Tutor at University of Melbourne Department of Economics; Macroeconomic Intern at the Australian Government – Department of the Treasury; and Investment Consulting Intern at Watson Wyatt – Investment Consulting Division.
He earned his Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Actuarial Studies, at The University of Melbourne in 2009.
